Lake marina acting on abandoned boats

With some abandoned boats moved from The Marina at Lake Meredith, workers out there are trying to figure out the best course of action for those boats.
With the low lake levels, the decision was made by the National Park Service late last year that the drop had resulted in lake levels that could no longer support marina services. The services that were provided at LMNRA were discontinued on Jan. 1, 2011.
Abandoned boats were moved to a parking lot and all docks and dock buildings will be demolished and recycled.
George Surles, Operator of The Marina at Lake Meredith, said that most of the boats have been claimed by owners, but the abandoned boats are currently in the legal process and he is working with Texas Parks and Wildlife to get the titles.
He said there is the possibility that an auction will be held when the titles are obtained.
The water line is now more than a half-mile from the boat ramps. However, the ramps will remain open.
Since 1973, the lake level has dropped from a high of 101.85 feet to its current low of 37.89 feet, reported on April 19, 2011. The current low comes from statistics reported on the web site of the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority.
