DALHART-On Friday night, the Dalhart Lady Wolves took advantage of good outside shooting and second half turnovers by the Borger Lady Bulldogs to pull away for the 56-27 win in District 1-3A play in Dalhart.
The Lady Bulldogs turned the ball over 12 times in the third period, leading to the Lady Wolves to start the second half on a 16-4 run to put the game out of reach.
After a rough showing on Tuesday against Pampa, the Lady Bulldogs opened the game doing a good job controlling the boards and moving the ball around on the offensive end.
Unfortunately, the Lady Bulldogs had a hard time getting the ball to to drop through the net, going 1/10 from the floor in the first period.
For Dalhart, Kenly White had the hot hand early, opening the game with back to back three pointers to give Dalhart a quick 0-6 lead. White would stay on fire from the outside hitting five three pointers in the game on her way to leading all scorers on the night with 17 points.
After Dalhart built a ten point lead, the Lady Bulldogs finally was able to get something going to start the second period.
A basket in the paint by Emma Wood, and back to back steals by McKenzie Loftis led to the Lady Bulldogs to pull to within four points, 9-13, at the 4:47 mark of the second period.
But the Lady Wolves regrouped by scoring nine points on three pointers to finish the second period on a 12-3 run to go into halftime up, 12-26.
Both teams came out a little cold shooting to start the third period. However by the five minute mark, the turnover bug started to plague the Lady Bulldogs leading to easy scoring opportunities to help Dalhart start pulling away for the win.
The loss drops the Lady Bulldogs to 4-16 overall, 0-2 in district play, while Dalhart improves to 14-8 overall and 1-1 in district.
The Lady Bulldogs will play their first district game at home on Tuesday evening when they welcome Perryton to town with tip off scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
