On Monday evening, the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen could not overcome a slow start in their 75-56 loss to the Western Texas College Lady Westerners in WJCAC action.
The Lady Westerners opened the game on a 10-0 run before Shardena Hudson put the Lady Plainsmen on the scoreboard with a jump shot on the baseline.
The Lady Plainsmen pulled to within five points three times in the first half. But the Lady Westerners finished the first half strong building a 19-33 lead by halftime.
The Lady Plainsmen tried to hang around in the second half, led by Destiny Phillips scoring nine.
But after getting down by 20, the closest the Lady Plainsmen could cut their deficit to was 16 points, allowing Western Texas to hang on for the win.
Western Texas improves to 14-11 overall, 3-5 in conference play while the Lady Plainsmen drop to 6-18 overall, 0-8 in conference play.
