There are times in sports when the underdog rises up and other times when a ranked team lives up to their hype. On Tuesday night, the 5A #10 Amarillo High Lady Sandies showed why they are one of the best teams in Texas by muscling their way to a three game sweep over the Borger Lady Bulldogs 25-14, 25-9, 25-13 at Tex Hanna Gym.
Game one started well for the Lady Bulldogs, as a kill by Haley Armstrong and a block by Raygen Eakins helped the team build a 6-2 lead.
However, the Lady Sandies responded by going on a 8-0 run to take the lead. The Lady Bulldogs fought hard throughout game one, but the Lady Sandies did a good job mixing up their offense to pull away for the win.
A 10-0 run by the Lady Sandies proved to be the difference in game two, with the Lady Bulldogs finding themselves in too big of a hole to try to make a comeback.
The Lady Bulldogs did not give up by continuing to fight through game three. However, two early runs by the Lady Sandies proved to make the difference in giving Amarillo High the sweep.
The Lady Bulldogs will now look to take advantage of having a week off before they begin District 1-3A play in Pampa next Tuesday evening.
