On Sunday, the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen softball team took one step closer to making the Region V Tournament by getting the split with Western Texas College in WJCAC action.
In game one of the series, the Lady Plainsmen jumped out early by scoring nine runs in the first inning on their way to a 12-2 win. The big inning gave the Lady Plainsmen pitcher a big cushion to work with and the pitcher took advantage of it by giving up just two runs on four hits through five innings.
Lucinda Ponce had a home run and four RBIs to lead the Lady Plainsmen at the plate. Arleen Alamanza also had a home run for Lady Plainsmen.
Unfortunately, the Lady Plainsmen bats cooled off in game two of the series by only scoring two runs on four hits in the 10-2 loss.
On Saturday, the Lady Plainsmen lost both of their games to conference leaders Howard College 9-1 and 15-6.
The Lady Plainsmen are now 12-30 overall and 4-10 in conference.
On Wednesday, the Lady Plainsmen will travel to Big Spring to take on Howard College in a doubleheader and will return to action in Borger on Friday hosting Odessa College in an evening doubleheader beginning at 5:00 p.m.
