After taking the trip north to take on Otero Junior College Lady Rattlers in a two game series on Wednesday, the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen and the Rattlers faced off once again on Thursday in a two-game series here in Borger.
On Wednesday, the two teams would split the series and on Thursday the teams saw the same result as the Lady Plainsmen won game one, 6-5 while Otero came out on top in game two, 6-5.
Lady Plainsmen sophomore pitcher Kiana Levy did a good job on the mound in game one, giving up just five runs on seven hits while striking out six Lady Rattler batters.
Neither team had much going at the plate until the bottom of the third inning when Rachelle Vazquez brought in Nikki Moreno on a RBI double followed by Kristi Michaud hitting a RBI single to bring in Vasquez to make it a 2-0 game.
The Lady Plainsmen expanded their lead in the fourth inning, beginning with a homerun by freshman Arleen Alamanza along with RBI hits by Vazquez and Janelle Smith to extend their lead to 6-0.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Lady Rattlers battled back with four straight hits that led to Otero bringing in five runs to get back into the game with the score 6-5.
The Lady Plainsmen failed to add any additional runs.
However, Levy and the Lady Plainsmen defense did a great job in the final two innings to hang on for the one run win.
The Lady Plainsmen go to 6-13 for the season and will next travel to Altus, Okla. on Tuesday to take on Western Oklahoma College in a two-game series before returning to Borger next Friday to host Midland College in a WJCAC doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
