Lady Plainsmen drop two to Western Texas

March 19, 2012

This past weekend was not a fun one for the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen softball team. After losing two games to Otero Junior College in Colorado on Friday, the Lady Plainsmen made the trip to Snyder where Western Texas College got the sweep 11-1 and 10-4 in WJCAC play.
In game one, Western Texas never surrendered the lead after the third inning, scoring three runs on an RBI double by Taylor Gillette, an RBI single by Christen Miller, and a wild pitch.
Western Texas piled on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Frank Phillips College managed to score one run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Sabrina Martinez.
In game two, the Lady Plainsmen scored four runs in the final two innings in order to try to spark a game winning rally. But the 0-6 deficit entering the sixth inning was too much for Frank Phillips to overcome.
Ashlie Odle connected for a three-run home run for the Lady Plainsmen in the sixth inning to make it a 3-6 score.
But Western Texas responded by adding four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take back a commanding lead for the win.
The Lady Plainsmen are now 7-18 for the 2012 season and will next travel to Lubbock tomorrow to take on Lubbock Christian JV, then will return to WJCAC play on Friday at Midland College.
