ALTUS, Okla.-On Thursday afternoon, the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen softball team opened the 2012 season with a pair of losses to Western Oklahoma College, 13-3 and 14-9.

In game one, the Lady Plainsmen committed six fielding errors, helping Western Oklahoma pull away for the run-rule win.
Western Oklahoma scored six runs in the second and third innings before the Lady Plainsmen got on the scoreboard off a three run homerun by sophomore Christine Blankenship.
But Western Oklahoma responded by adding seven more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to come away with the win.

In game two, the Lady Plainsmen cut down the fielding errors and saw their bats come alive. But Western Oklahoma scored 11 runs in the second and third innings causing the Lady Plainsmen to play from behind the whole game.
Freshman Lucinda Ponce had a big game, hitting two homeruns and bringing in four RBIs.
Blakenship and Arleen Alamanza each had a homerun in game two.
Weather permitting, the Lady Plainsmen will play their home opener on Saturday in a doubleheader against Otero Junior College beginning at 1:00 p.m.
