Lady Hounds outlast Lady Eagles

On Tuesday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles hosted the Gruver Lady Hounds for a basketball matchup. The Lady Hounds came out aggressive and quickly had an 8-3 run before Coach Hale and his Lady Eagles needed a timeout. Too many missed shots were the main reason Gruver was in the lead. The first quarter ended with Gruver on top 11-8. The second quarter was a ‘run & gun’ race with good defense and steals. Lady Eagles came within one with a Christa White steal and free throw to make the score, 18-19. But Gruver’s Madison McLain shot a three pointer to end the half with Gruver 22 SF 18.Third quarter had the Lady Eagles struggling with missed rebounds and under the basket shots. This lead to the Lady Hounds lead. The Lady Eagles took another timeout to re-focus and re-group. A couple of big steals and shots by Mariah Cumings and Kelsey Ham helped keep the score close. Lady Eagles shot poorly-33% from regular range. Gruver was leading 41-29.The Lady Eagles came out for the last quarter on a 11-6 run by good hustle plays from White, Cumings, Jacy Judd, and Summer Tubbs. Gruver’s McLain ended the game with 23 points. Junior Kelsey Ham came off the bench to lead Fritch with 10. The Lady Hounds came away winning 53-42 over the Lady Eagles.
