PAMPA-On Tuesday evening, the Pampa Lady Harvesters used a big third period to pull away for the 67-41 win over the Borger Lady Bulldogs in District 1-3A play.
The Lady Bulldogs entered the gym, at Pampa High School, determined not to let Pampa run away early for a blowout win like their first meeting in district play.
Until the 4:45 mark of the third period, the Lady Bulldogs were within six points of the Lady Harvesters and were a few breaks from putting together a run to potentially tie the game up or take the lead. Unfortunately, those breaks went to Pampa in the third period, where the Lady Harvesters used a 16-4 run to build a 33-51 lead going into the fourth period.
Pampa started the game strong by taking an early 0-7 lead. However, it was the Lady Bulldogs finishing the first period strong, led by Jackie Mendez scoring six quick points to make it a 11-13 game.
Halfway through the second period, the Lady Harvesters built an 11 point lead, 18-29. Yet the Lady Bulldogs finished the first half strong outscoring the Lady Harvesters 8-2 to go into the break down five points, 26-31.
A free throw by McKenzie Loftis and a basket by Emma Wood allowed the Lady Bulldogs to make it a four point game at the 5:45 mark of the third period, 29-33.
But the big run allowed the Lady Harvesters to pull away in the third period and leave the court with the win.
The Lady Bulldogs drop to 0-7, while Pampa improves to 3-4 in district play. Due to having just two district games left, the Lady Bulldogs are eliminated from playoff contention. However, the Lady Bulldogs will look to end the season on a high note starting Friday night in Dalhart when they take on the Lady Wolves at 6:00 p.m.
