Lady Eagles prevail in county matchup

Fritch's Setliff goes up for two of her 28 points Monday night.

The Borger Lady Bulldogs hosted their county competitor, the Sanford Fritch Lady Eagles in a Monday night matchup on the hardwood. It was tied after the first quarter, but the Lady Eagles would pull ahead until the end of the 4th, when Borger tried to crawl back in it. Fritch prevails and wins this one 62-58.
White started the scoring for Fritch quickly with a drive to the hoop. Setliff then knocks down a three and a field goal for the Lady Eagles to go up 7-0. Borger finally gets on the board with two from Lawson, followed by a three of her own. Fritch continues to score, but Loftis drains a three and so does N. Embers to put Borger up by 1. The first quarter ends tied at 14.
Setliff gets a nice pass inside and puts it in for two. Prater hits a jumper for Borger, but then Fritch goes on a 10-2 run led by Setliff. Urquidi hits two free throws for Borger, and Brown has a nice assist to Wood for two, but Setliff and Ingersoll continue to score for Fritch. White hits a three for the Lady Eagles to end the half up 35-23.
Urquidi starts off scoring for Borger with a steal that leads to her hitting a three. Urquidi, Embers, and Loftis all score for Borger, but they can't stop Setliff who hits a three, and four free throws. Prater puts up two for Borger, and Setliff puts up two more for Fritch. The scoring goes back and forth, and the 3rd ends with a three from Borger's Brown to make it 53-45 Lady Eagles.
Borger was down but not out in the fourth. Wood scores two for Borger off an offensive rebound, and Judd answers with two for Fritch. Wood, Loftis, Embers, and Lawson all score points for Borger in their effort to climb back in the game, and they are only 3 points behind with 1:42 left on the clock. Setliff hits two big free throws for Fritch. Loftis is fouled and goes to the line to hit one of two from the line, but Borger rebounds. Setliff steals it, and Fritch hits two more free throws. N. Embers has a nice three point play for Borger with 30 seconds left, but it just wasn't enough. Fritch wins this one, 62-58.
Mikala Setliff led all scorers with 28 points. She also shot 100% from the free throw line, sinking all 12 of her attempts. Christa White had 7 points for the Lady Eagles.
McKenzie Loftis led Borger's scoring with 16 points, and Nellie Embers was close behind with 11. Lawson finished with 8 points.
