Lady Eagles grind out win over Amarillo Highland Park
On Friday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles travelled to Amarillo to play Highland Park Lady Hornets. The same Lady Eagle team that has been playing these past weeks didn’t show on this bus. The Lady Eagles found themselves playing the same type game and tempo as the Lady Hornets. Too many turnovers and missed shots would have cost them the game against any other team. At the end first quarter, the Lady Eagles were ahead only by the score 11-8. Sanford-Fritch tried to pick some of their style of basketball in the second quarter, with junior Kelsey Ham making some great shots helping the halftime score to become 23-12 in favor of Sanford-Fritch. Sanford-Fritch’s Coach Hale tried to motivate and pull his team together with a quick timeout late in the third. Sanford-Frtich had some big steals and great rebounds from senior Summer Tubbs, 4 and 14, respectfully. Sanford-Fritch was up by 10 at end of third quarter, 28-18. Sophomore Christa White lead all scorers with 15 from some tough guts play. She, along with her teammates had to work for every drive or play. Sanford-Fritch wins final score 36-26. Fortunately, Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles ended the game as winners and will need to refocus before a long road trip Tuesday to a good opponent in Childress.
