Lady Eagles cap off regular season with win over Highland Park

February 8, 2012

On Tuesday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles finished up District 1-2A play Tuesday evening with a big win over the Amarillo Highland Park Lady Hornets.
Its been a great season to watch with the Lady Eagles capturing second place in district. Tuesday night was also Senior night and Sanford-Fritch will graduate four girls that have been great leaders for this program. The familiar Lady Eagles are Jacy Judd, Summer Tubbs, Mariah Cumings and Mandi West. They will be missed by Coach Hale and their younger teammates.
The Lady Eagles started off as expected, dominating offensively and quickly racking up the score. They pushed the ball and won a few steals to end the first quarter up, 16-5.
The roll for the Lady Eagles continued into the second quarter fairly easy hitting big shots and capitalizing over the many Highland Park turnovers. These helped the Lady Eagles score and take a 21 point lead at halftime.
Same type of ball game in the third quarter where the Lady Eagles came out aggressive and forcing more turnovers. Great free-throw shooting for the Lady Eagles was another factor in the run-away score.
Lady Eagles had a fun night, trying to enjoy their last home game and doing some creative plays that would normally not be allowed. Third quarter had the Lady Eagles 51-24 score over the Lady Hornets. It was a Lady Eagle show and tell fourth quarter that allowed many teammates with double figures- Jacy Judd 15; Summer Tubbs 14; Christa White 14; Mariah Cumings 13. Final Score 75-39.
They ran away with a big win preparing for playoff action, starting with warm-up game Friday against McLean and next week taking on the second seed from District 2-2A, Idalou, on Tuesday in Canyon. Sanford-Fritch ends the regular season 20-10 overall and 8-2 in District 1-2A play.
