Lady Comanches tame McLean's Lady Tigers in District softball

March 27, 2012

West Texas High's Lady Comanches welcomed the Lady Tigers from McLean Monday afternoon and sent them home with their tail between their legs in a 29-6 "mercy rule" game in four innings. Erin Summers pitched all four innings for WT and had four strike outs, walked four, allowed three earned runs, and she also had an RBI. Devin DeLapp had a stellar game at the plate. She needed just a double to hit for the cycle. DeLapp had an inside the park home run, a triple, a base hit, a base on balls, and eight RBI's.
McLean scored one run in the first inning and had they bases loaded when Summers struck out two hitters to retire the side. The Lady Comanches left no doubt they were tired of losing to the Lady Tigers and put up twelve runs before they made their first out. WT sent twenty hitters to bat in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Tribe put up 17 runs to take a huge 17-1 lead after one complete inning.
One Lady Tiger made it on board in the top of the second on a base hit. However, she didn't stay on for long, as the Lady Tribe caught her trying to take second for the third out. West Texas scored six more runs in the bottom of the inning with extra base hits from Rios, Taylor Kirksey, and DeLapp.
A fielding error by the Lady Comanches allowed three unearned runs and one earned, to get on the scoreboard in the top of the third. The bottom of this inning was the only one that didn't produce a Lady Comanche run. Two hitters got on base when Natalie Franklin walked and Cheyenne Tull was hit by a pitch. They were left stranded when the inning ended with WT still in command 23-5.
A lead off triple and a walk gave McLean one more run in the top of the fourth. The Lady Comanches added five more runs to their total and had the bases loaded with one out when the umpires called the game. The win gives WT a 2-1 District record.
At the plate, DeLapp was the big winner with her home run, triple, base hit, and eight RBI's. Rios had a base hit and a triple with and RBI. Kirksey had a double and three RBI's. Franklin hit a double and had three RBI's. Tull had three RBI's. Abby Summers, Erin Summers, Sarah Kelly, and Kristen Ferguson each had an RBI.
