The West Texas Lady Comanches were still looking for their first District win last night as they hosted the Lady Elks from Stratford. They put up a good fight, but they finished the first half of District without a win, falling to Stratford 29-25 in a low scoring contest.
Neither team started the game strong as the first quarter ended with both teams posting 4 points.
The second was a little better point wise, but both had numerous turnovers. Abby Rios had a nice effort with a rebound, a bucket, and a steal. Erin Summers hit a three to put WT up 9-6. The Lady Elks tied the game at 10 with a little over two minutes left in the half, but the Lady Elks took a 15-12 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Each team added seven points to their totals in the third quarter. Sarah Kelly went 2-2 at the foul line. Cheyenne Tull blocked an Elk shot and Alyssa Snider came up with the ball and hit Tull with a nice pass on the other end for a bucket. The third ended with WT still trailing 22-19.
Neither team could muster much offense in the fourth period either. Stratford put up 7 and WT 6. Abby Summers was 2-2 at the free throw line and Katelyn Wilson made a bucket and a free throw. WT closed in within a point with 1:20 to go, 25-26 but they were force to foul to stop the clock and the Lady Elks managed to go 3-5 at the line to keep WT at bay and take the win 29-25.
Tull had 7 points, 6 rebounds, and a steal. Wilson score 6 points, 7 boards, and 2 steals. The second round of loop action starts Tuesday with Gruver at home.
