The West Texas Lady Comanches trailed the Does from White Deer briefly last night, but after trailing 4-0, they tied it, then took the lead, and never looked back. White Deer rallied in the third quarter and tied the score at 26, but never gained enough momentum to take the lead from WT.
With the score tied at six, Abby Rios made a nice little pass to Natalie Franklin for two. Franklin popped the net with a three to put the Lady Comanches up 9-8. Erin Summers hit the back end of two free throws to give WT ten, and they led 10-8 after one.
The Lady Tribe scored ten more points in the second quarter, eight came at the foul line. Sarah Kelly made 2-3, Abby Summers hit 3-5, and Katelyn Wilson was 1-2. Madison Heston added a bucket. E. Summers had back to back steals just before the half and WT led 20-11 at the buzzer.
After going up 24-13, the Does went on an 11-2 run to tie the score at 26 all. Cheyenne Tull put in the bucket and also added 2-2 free throws. Kelly, A. Summers, and Rios also had baskets. The Lady Comanches clung to a 30-26 lead after three.
Devin DeLapp made a sweet pass to Tull for a jumper in the paint to start the third, but then White Deer scored four unanswered to stay close 34-30. Wilson hit 2-2 free throws plus swiped the ball and made a shot inside. This made the score 39-32. Kelly and Tull both added a bucket to give WT a little breathing room with a 43-35 score and 3:00 left in the game. A. Summers sank 2-2 at the line to make it 45-35 with 2:12 in the game. White Deer turned the ball over and missed two free throws to seal their fate. Summers added two more free throws and Kelly added a basket to ice the cake for WT with a 49-37 win.
