Lady Bulldogs lose in important district contest
The Lady Bulldogs played in Dalhart on Friday night in an important district contest. The Lady Dogs swept the Lady Wolves when they played in Borger to start district play. That has proved to be Dalhart's only loss, as they are tied with River Road atop the district standings. This time, however, it would be the other way around, and Dalhart swept Borger in three sets: 25-13, 25-18, 25-22.The first set was a struggle for the Lady Dogs from the start. They were down 10-3 early on after a kill from Emma Wood. Katie Ammerman had some great defensive plays and Blaine Hill set it up for an Armstrong kill, but the ladies were still down by 7. Despite a few great digs from Tootie Karins, they couldn't climb back in this one and lost 25-13.The second set was a bit improved for Borger. An assist from Nicole McMurry set up Wood and then two Kaylee Purcell kills. Haley Armstrong and Ammerman would both add kills, along with Nellie Embers, while Purcell had a nice block at the net. After another Ammerman kill, the ladies were only down by two, 18-16 after being down by 7 at one point. Stephanie Soto had three straight digs and Purcell had another block at the net, but the Lady Wolves would rattle off 5 straight points and eventually win 25-18.The third set was a must-win for the Lady Dogs, and their play was much improved. Maggie McMurry played great defense to start off the set, and after a Wood kill, Borger was up 3-2 early. The score was close throughout. Ammerman killed it, and Purcell and Wood each had another block to tie the score at 11 all. The McMurry sisters both recorded an ace, and another Armstrong kill kept the score tied at 15. Embers and Ammerman recorded kills to put the ladies up 18-17. Purcell and Ammerman then had kills, and Ammerman also had a nice block and the game was tied at 22. Dalhart would score the final three points, however, and the ladies fell 25-22 in the sweep.Wood led Borger in kills with 8, followed by Ammerman with 7. N. McMurry had 17 assists to lead the Lady Dogs. Wood had 6 blocks at the net, followed by Purcell with 3. M. McMurry had two aces, while N. McMurry, Soto, and Armstrong all had one. M. McMurry finished with 19 digs, and Ammerman was next with 18.In the next contest, your Lady Bulldogs will face a Pampa team that barely beat them on their home court. The Lady Dogs look for revenge and need a win on Tuesday. Come out to the Bulldog gym on Tuesday to cheer them to victory. JV and 9th grades start play at 5pm with Varsity following.
