The Lady Bulldogs travelled to Pampa to take on the Lady Harvesters this Saturday for a tough district contest. The ladies were down and out in the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-21, but came back and won the next two26-24 and 28-26. In the fifth and final set, they fell 15-10.
Every lady on the team contributed in the contest. They played solid in the first two sets, but Pampa prevailed. The girls cleaned it up in the third and fourth sets.
Nicole McMurry assisted to Katie Ammerman and Haley Armstrong for eight of the points in the third set. Armstrong and Blaine Hill both recorded aces, and Kaylee Purcell had a monster block at the net. With the Lady Dogs up 25-24, Tootie Karins had a game-saving dig and Armstrong killed it for the 26-24 victory.
Set four was a thrilling one. Maggie McMurry played outstanding defense to start the fourth set. Emma Wood and Armstrong both recorded kills to put the Lady Dogs up 4-3 early. The N. McMurry assists to Ammerman seemed to work out well, as they combined for five points in the set. Purcell put up outstanding work at the net having two blocks in a row to put Borger up 10-7. The ladies held on to the lead until late in the game, and it was tied at 26 after a great dig from Stephanie Soto to keep the ball alive. After a Pampa error, and a beautiful ace from Karins, the ladies fight hard and win the long match 28-26.
The fifth set started off quick with a Wood block and kill. Purcell had another block at the net for the Lady Dogs as well. N. McMurry would assist to Armstrong for four points in the set, but Borger came up short in a hard-fought battle, 15-10.
Armstrong led the team in kills with 22 and Ammerman had 12. N. McMurry had a great game with 24 assists, while Hill added 4. Wood, N. McMurry, and Armstrong all had 3 aces. M. McMurry finished with 14 digs and Karins had 7. Purcell came up with 5 blocks at the net, and Wood had 2.
The Lady Dogs will take on Perryton on Tuesday in Borger. The JV starts at 5pm.
