Kenton J. Savage, 65, of Borger passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Borger Healthcare Center. He was born Monday, March 4, 1946 in Chickasha, OK to Orvil James and Helen Oaks Savage.
Kenton moved to Stinnett, TX in 1956. He graduated from Stinnett High School and enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country.
After returning from the military, he became a truck driver and drove a chemical truck for Wes-Chem over twenty-five years. After that he worked for the 6666 Ranch and then he drove a truck for Gerald Bentley out of Stinnett, TX. Due to ill health, he was forced to retire.
Kenton enjoyed many things in life. He loved to watch football and baseball games. He especially enjoyed watching the Rangers, Cowboys and girls basketball and softball.
He took part in Mountain Man Encampment for years. Later he loved cooking on the J3 Wagon in competition with J.J. Johnston. Kenton told many stories of their efforts and his proudest moment was their National Championship win.
About four years ago Kenton was struck by Guillain-Barre Disease that left him paralyzed. He battled the disease with great courage with all the help of his friends and caregivers at Borger Healthcare.
The family wants to thank everyone at the center who gave him extra attention. He was blessed by you and his special friends, Jimmy Johnston the J3 Wagon, Mary Harnish, Claude & Joy Thompson & his music man Goober. You were so special to him.
Kenton is survived by a sister Terry Kennedy of Fairfax, OK, a nephew Jesse Shuffield & wife Kathy of Borger, TX and their daughter Natasha Hernandez. A niece Christy Hand & her husband Bobby of Enid, OK. As well as Uncles Nevelyn Schmidt of OK. Also many cousins that he shared his childhood memories with.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a nephew Lance and his grandparents.
Per his request he was cremated by Brown Funeral Directors and his ashes will be buried at Friendship Cemetery in Pocasset, OK.
