JoElla Long

JoElla Long, 76 of Fritch, Texas passed away July 17, 2013 in her home. Born Sept. 27, 1936 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Alfred “Hoke” Halford and Sarah “Tinnie” Elizabeth (Jones). JoElla was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and good friend to many.

JoElla married, George W. Long on Dec. 3, 1953 in Borger, Texas. George worked for Phillips Petroleum Company, where through his job they lived in many locations: Borger, Tx; Sweeny, Tx.; Bartlesville, Ok; Yarm, England; and finally Fritch, Texas, where they resided since 1980. In the course of her marriage she had 3 children: Mikeal William, Katherine Marie, and Rebecca Elizabeth. While living in England, JoElla became a chef through the School of Cordon Bleu, under the tutelege of Julia Childs. She was also the president of the International Women’s Society. After moving to Fritch, Texas, Joella became the director of Trailee Crisis Center in Pampa, Texas, where she was certified as a drug counselor. JoElla had many hobbies. One of which was antique collecting. She spent many weekends at estate sales and shops. Once George retired from Phillips Petroleum Company, she and George took up traveling. Their travels led them all over the world. She thoroughly enjoyed this part of her life.

JoElla was involved in her church, St. Andrews Methodist Church in Buenavista. She participated in her church choir, where she sang many solos and had a beautiful singing voice. She was a member of the Borger Kiwanis Club where she was an active and contributing member. JoElla was a member of the Choctaw Nation. She was very proud of this rich heritage. JoElla was also a third great-granddaughter of David Crockett of “Alamo” fame. She was a member of the Direct Descendants of David Crockett. She attended their family reunion in Tennessee in 2012, where she was honored by them.

JoElla was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Sarah Halford, her brothers, Royce and Mikeal Halford. She is survived by her beloved husband and soulmate, George Long of the home; Her children; Mikeal W. Long and his wife Linda of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Katherine M of Gordonville, Texas; Rebecca Bodey and her husband Robert of Stinnett, Texas. Her Nephews, Royce Warren Halford of Salem Oregon and Brian K. Halford of Dallas, Oregon. JoElla was the proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren: Michel Simer, Matt Reeves, Rachelle Patten Wimmer, Joshua Patten, Tiffany Davis, Bobbi Garcia, William Marshall, Harley Marshall, Mike Justice, and David Bodey. She also had 7 great grandchildren, as well as many cousins, other relatives and friends.

Her beautiful smile, twinkling eyes, and quick wit will be terribly missed by all who had the honor of knowing her. She touched many lives and brought joy to all, which in turn brought her great joy.

On July 19, 2013 at 6 - 8:00 PM at Minton-Chatwell in Fritch, Texas, family night will be held. On July 20, 2013 at 10:00AM Celebration of Life at St. Andrews Methodist Church in Buenavista, Texas followed by lunch.

On July 21, 2013 in Garber, Oklahoma at the Garber Funeral Home, a family night will be held from 6-8:00PM. On July 22, 2013 at 2:00PM there will be a Celebration of Life at the Garber United Methodist Church, followed by burial at Garber Cemetery.
