Interest rises in Concealed Handgun Licenses

December 20, 2012

Since recent tragedies have occurred because of the misuse of firearms, the government is considering removing guns from the system by enforcing “gun control”.
Not only have gun sales gone through the roof, but there have been more inquiries on Concealed Handgun License classes.
According to CHL instructor Dennis Burton, people are getting concerned.
He continued to say, “It is important to protect ourselves. Police officers can’t always be there. As a police officer I appreciate those who have a Concealed Handgun License.”
Burton explained there are some restrictions on CHLs. For example, you cannot carry a gun into a school even if you do have a CHL. Texas citizens are allowed to have a gun in their homes and cars without a CHL, but if you want to be able to have more security and have that ability to carry a gun on your person, you have to go through a series of tests to earn such rights.
To qualify for a CHL you must be 21 years old. (Members and former members of the armed forces must be 18.), a person must also have a clean criminal history, including military service and recent juvenile records, not be under a protective order, not be chemically dependent, not be of unsound mind, not be delinquent in paying fines, fees, child support, etc., be eligible to buy a handgun by completing the NICS check, and be able to complete required training.

“ I encourage people to get a CHL for beneficial reasons such as the “what if” situations were to occur. It doesn’t give them the right to shoot someone whenever they want. When you have a CHL you are under the same scrutiny as a police officer when in use of deadly force.”
Burton will be teaching his next class on Dec. 29. For more information on CHLs or how to attend his class, call 806-898-5300.
