The Borger Lady Bulldogs appeared to be on their way to taking home the Sanford-Fritch Volleyball Tournament title by being the one team to go undefeated in pool play on Friday.
However, it would be the Amarillo Highland Park Lady Hornets that caught on fire during bracket play on Saturday, taking the tournament title by upsetting Borger in the semi-finals and beating Sanford-Fritch in the championship match.
Borger opened Saturday’s play with a bye before squaring off with district foes Perryton for the second time in the tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs won the match with Perryton to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinals, Highland Park came out strong to get the win over the Lady Bulldogs in two sets 25-22, 25-22.
On the other side of the bracket, West Texas High and Sanford-Fritch won their opening matches on Saturday to set up a meeting between the county rivals to see who advanced to the championship match.
The Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Comanches to make it an all District 1-2A championship.
In the title game, Highland Park carried the momentum from their win over Borger to defeat the Lady Eagles in straight sets 25-12, 25-17.
In the third place match, Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Comanches in straight games to claim third place in the tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs will seek a little revenge tomorrow night when they travel to Amarillo to take on Highland Park beginning at 5:00 p.m.
Sanford-Fritch will host Amarillo Holy Cross tomorrow evening at 5:00 p.m. while West Texas High travels to play Perryton.
