In the first week of the season, the areas of concern for the Borger Bulldogs were errors and giving up too many walks. On Wednesday evening the Bulldogs did a better job in both areas, but the team struggled offensively in their 11-2 loss to the Hereford Whitefaces out at Huber Park.
The Whiteface pitching staff did a good job working the plate limiting the Bulldogs to three hits while striking out 10 batters in the game.
In the top of the second inning, the Whitefaces took a 0-5 lead on a RBI single, a three RBI triple, and a passed ball at home plate.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Bulldogs had an opportunity to put some runs on the scoreboard with two hit batters on the base path with one out. Unfortunately a fielder’s choice to third base and a strikeout kept the Bulldogs scoreless.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Bulldogs finally put two runs on the scoreboard, off a RBI double by Ben Sharp and a RBI single by Kota Dillard, to make it 2-5.
Dillard had a good game behind the plate for the Bulldogs by throwing out two Whiteface base runners at second base.
Unfortunately after the fourth inning the Bulldogs managed just one more hit in the game, which came off a double by Clay Ellis in the fifth inning.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Whitefaces put the game out of reach by scoring six runs to get the final score of 2-11.
The loss drops the Bulldogs to 1-4 for the season and the team will next host Amarillo Tascosa on Tuesday, March 6th beginning at 4:30 p.m.
