November 15, 2011

Mary Lou Henderson

Longtime Hutchinson County Tax Assessor Collector Mary Lou Henderson has made the announcement that she will not seek reelection in the upcoming 2012 election.
Henderson has been serving in the position since 1985. She began working for Hutchinson County in 1958, starting on a part-time basis. She then worked in the Borger office in 1961, where she remained until taking a position at Phillips in 1976.
She ran for the office of Tax Assessor Collector in 1984 and began work the following year. She will continue serving as Tax Assessor Collector through December of 2012.
Henderson said the decision not to run for another term as Tax Assessor Collector was a difficult one.
“I love my job and I love the people,” she said. “It’s the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make in my life.”
She said she has appreciated the support of the community throughout her time in office.
“I want to thank everybody for supporting me all these years,” Henderson said. “It’s a public office and I have enjoyed serving.”
