Heading back to the playoffs

Borger senior Bethany Harris #4 makes the play on the ball in the win over Perryton at Tex Hanna Gym.

Borger tops Perryton to clinch the final District 1-3A playoff spot

On Tuesday evening, the Perryton Rangerettes and the Borger Lady Bulldogs entered Tex Hanna Gym ready to give it all they had in order to clinch the final District 1-3A playoff spot.
The teams entered with identical 1-7 district marks and knew the scenario was simple. Win and you clinch a playoff berth or lose and start thinking about basketball.
Both teams came out and were evenly matched early on. However after seeing game two slip away, the Lady Bulldogs dominated games three and four to defeat Perryton and get back into the playoffs by scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-8, 25-13.
In game one, the teams went back and forth before the Lady Bulldogs finally got a three point cushion 18-15. But the Rangerettes would not go away and were able to pull back to within one point a couple of times before a kill by Kristen Mills and a double hit gave the Lady Bulldogs the points needed for the 25-23 win.
Mills did a good job moving the ball around in game one, setting up Kaylee Purcell, Raygen Eakins and Nellie Embers for three kills each.
In game two, the Lady Bulldogs were able to overcome a sluggish start to find themselves ahead 23-21.
However, a couple of errors and two big kills by the Rangettes allowed the game to slip out of the Lady Bulldogs hands with Perryton winning 23-25.
In their response to the game two loss, the Bulldogs came out fired up in games three and four and sent a message to the Rangerettes about who was the better team on Tuesday night.
The combination of great defense and solid net play allowed the Lady Bulldogs to pull away early and never look back in winning game three 25-8.
Allyson Burrows, Bethany Harris, Nicole McMurry and Maggie McMurry did a great job down the stretch defensively limiting kill opportunities for the Rangerettes.
The Lady Bulldogs cruised right along in game four setting up Mills to Embers for the kill to end the match and send the Lady Bulldogs into the playoffs.
The win improves the Lady Bulldogs to 20-19 overall and 2-7 in District 1-3A.
The details of the Lady Bulldogs’ bi-district match were unknown Tuesday evening. However the team appears to be on their way to taking on Levelland, the District 2-3A’s number two seed, early next week.
Borger game stats: Emma Wood 5 kills, 4 blocks, 3 assists, 2 digs, 1 ace; Raygen Eakins 12 kills, 3 digs, 1 ace, 1 block; Kaylee Purcell 4 kills, 2 blocks; Bethany Harris 12 digs; Nicole McMurry 5 digs; Maggie McMurry 6 digs; Allyson Burrows 8 digs, 2 aces, 1 block; Haley Armstrong 3 kills, 1 dig; Nellie Embers 11 kills 3 blocks, 5 assists.
