HCUW seeking Day of Caring projects

March 14, 2012

The Hutchinson County United Way is seeking projects for its Day of Caring this April.
The event is scheduled for April 28, 2012. There will not be a day of caring scheduled this fall.
According to Teri Hogue, who is on the United Way Board of Directors, this particular event is a day when volunteers choose to give their time and services to work on a one-time service project in an effort to impact the community’s needs with tasks that they are unable to perform themselves.
“Projects are dependent upon the manpower available,” she said.
Local citizens or those they know who are elderly or disabled are encouraged to call the HCUW for help with the following projects:
•Home repairs
•Wheelchair ramp
•Gutter cleaning
•Winterizing homes for the elderly and disabled
•Painting
•Yard cleanup
•Housekeeping
•Carpentry and odd jobs
All jobs will be limited to four hours of work.
Jobs are limited, and the following types of work will not be approved:
•Work requiring permits
•Bathroom remodeling
•Outside paint jobs
•Roofing
•Gas lines
•Plumbing
•Work on rental property
Those wanting to submit a project can call (806) 274-9424 before the April 7, 2012 deadline. Citizens are encouraged to call early due to the limited number of job requests.
