Harry (Gene) Kuhrt, 82, of Borger, passed away, Thursday, January 12, 2012.
Harry Lugene Kuhrt was born Saturday, June 29, 1929 in Denver, CO to Harry William and Dorsie (Hubbard) Kuhrt. Harry graduated high school in Fort Lupton, Co. He went on to finish his education at Denver University and Texas Tech University. He married Jo Ann Hubbard on December 27, 1950. He worked for Phillips Petroleum for thirty-three years in various positions including chemist. He worked for seven years for Texas Department of Mental Health and was chairman of CRCG. Harry was a active member of Fairlanes Baptist Church, donating his time and expertise as a teacher, church business moderator and Chairman of the Deacons. He was a member of Lions Club for over fifty years holding many positions as an officer and committee member and receiving the highest award in the club, The Melvin Jones Fellow Award. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner and a Gideon. Harry also served on the Salvation Army Board for many years. Harry loved kids and spent many hours mentoring and counseling at risk students within the Borger Independent School District. Harry was Borgerâ€™s Citizen Of The Year in 2011 making Borger better by believing in Borger and Borger citizens.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Berniece Chambers.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann; two sons, Stephen Delbert Kuhrt and wife Senila of Adairsville, GA and Morris Gene Kuhrt and wife Denna of Midland, TX; two daughters, Melinda Lou Lynch and husband John of Fountain Valley. CA and Bethany Ann Cowan and husband Leon of Charlotte, NC; eleven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, January 16, 2012 at Fairlanes Baptist Church in Borger, TX with Rev. Paul Burwash officiating. Private family burial will be at 10:00AM in Highland Park Cemetery.
Mr. Kuhrt will lie in state at Brown Chapel Of The Fountains in Borger, TX on Saturday, January 14, 2012 from 8:00AM to 8:00PM and Sunday, January 15, 2012 from 12:00PM to 6:00PM.
