Get pumped up for the HOPE 7K walk/run

August 14, 2012

The HOPE 7K run/walk is coming soon to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.
“Twenty-five years ago, a small group of people in Hutchinson County started HOPE to raise money to help support those affected by cancer. HOPE is able to raise enough money to fund research and other needs of the American Cancer Society. The ACS is a community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service,” said HOPE chairman Wonder Smith.
This event will be held on Sept. 15, 2012, at Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument.
According to Smith, there will be several hundred from across the panhandle attending and participating in this event.
Registration for the event is $35 on or before Aug. 25, 2012 and $45 if after Aug. 25. Citizens must register by this date to guarantee a shirt. Shirts are being offered in adult sizes small through XXL. Packet pickup will be the morning of the race starting at 7 a.m. and the race will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. at the Visitor’s Center.
All participants are required to sign a waiver stating that they are adequately fit to take part and that they are responsible for any accidents or injuries that may occur during the race. All ages are encouraged to register. Those under 18 require a parent or guardian signature.
