On Tuesday evening, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen took on the Trinidad State College Trojans in their final home game for the fall semester in the BCAC.
The Trojans won the first meeting between the two in Colorado earlier this month. However, the Plainsmen took advantage of good shooting from behind the three point line and a 10-2 run in the final four minutes to get the win, 91-80.
The Plainsmen started the game having a tough time getting their shots to fall. However, the team was able to count on its outside game all evening, hitting 11 of 15 three pointers.
The Trojans came out of halftime with momentum to build a ten point, 44-54, lead by the 15:44 mark of the second half.
After a timeout, the Plainsmen quickly responded and were able to tie the game at 58-58 at the 11:55 mark. James Boonstoppel started the Plainsmen run with a steal he turned into a lay up. Earl Hill chipped in with a three pointer before the run was capped off by back to back baskets by Ronald Scott to tie the game.
At the 6:30 mark, The Plainsmen started to get some separation when Ben Murphy scored four straight and Taquan McDew hit a basket to give Frank Phillips a 75-69 lead.
The Trojans tried to put together one final run. However, a double technical against the Trojans help start the final 10-2 run leading to the Frank Phillips double digit win.
The Plainsmen improve to 5-5 for the season and will next travel to take on Lamar CC and Otero JC this weekend in Colorado.
Bryant Evans led the Trojans in scoring with 17 points, followed by Juhreece Thompson with 16.
McDew led all scorers with 20 points, with three other Plainsmen scoring at least ten points in the win.
