Frank Phillips College name Lay as new baseball coach

On Monday, Frank Phillips College President Dr. Jud Hicks told the FPC Board of Regents that Kurtis Lay has been hired as the new Plainsmen Baseball Coach.
The head coaching position for the Plainsmen came open in late July after Jared Gaston resigned in order to be closer to his family in Tennessee.
Gaston served as head coach for the Plainsmen just one season, posting a 19-29 overall record and finishing in seventh place in the WJCAC.
Lay spent last year as an assistant coach at Cochise College in Douglas, Ariz.. Prior to his time at Cochise, Lay was the Head Coach at St. Albert Minor Baseball in Canada and coached at Perth Western Australia.
However, Lay has roots in the West Texas area playing collegiate baseball at Odessa College and serving as an assistant coach at Lubbock Christian University and Western Texas College in Snyder.
Lay holds a Masters of Special Education from Lubbock Christian University and a Bachelor of Behavioral Science from Hardin-Simmons University
Lay is a native of Abilene.
