Tonight, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen and Lady Plainsmen will host Western Texas College in a WJCAC basketball doubleheader at the BCAC.
The women’s game will tip off at 5:45 p.m., with the men following at around 7:30 p.m.
The men’s game features two teams who have struggled in WJCAC play by holding identical 1-7 conference records.
After beating the Plainsmen on January 19th, Western Texas has lost six straight, which includes dropping the last four games by an average of 27 points.
In the Plainsmen’s last four games, the team had opportunities to potentially pull off upsets over New Mexico Junior College and Howard College, but could not get over the hump in the final minutes in both contests.
Western Texas is led by a pair of talented guards Willie Rogers and Jalen Hughes who have combined to average 26 points per game in the backcourt.
Entering tonight, both Frank Phillips College and Western Texas sit four games behind New Mexico JC for fourth place and a spot in the Region V Tournament.
In order to catch New Mexico JC, the Plainsmen would have to get hot in their final six games and hope for some breaks, including the T-Birds struggling a lot down the stretch. But the Plainsmen still have the opportunity to finish WJCAC play strong and compete with Midland College for the fifth place spot in the WJCAC standings with a win tonight.
In the women’s game, Western Texas enters tonight off a 47-45 win over Howard College last Thursday.
For the Lady Plainsmen, the team has shown a lot of improvement in recent games with Howard College, Odessa College, and Midland College. But the Lady Plainsmen enter tonight still looking for their first WJCAC win of the season.
