FPC Plainsmen split games with Midland College

April 21, 2012

MIDLAND-On Friday, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen split their two games with Midland College Chaparrals by winning game one 7-5 and dropping game two 0-4 in WJCAC play.
The Plainsmen opened game one by scoring four runs in the top of the first inning to give pitcher Brad Wieck a good cushion to work with from the mound.
Midland chipped away at the lead and pulled to within one run in the fifth inning. But the Plainsmen responded by scoring three in the top of the sixth inning.
Joel Villareal had three RBIs and Nolan Hoskins had two RBIs to lead the Plainsmen at the plate.
Wieck got the win, while Sam Martin came in relief in the seventh inning to get the save. Wieck improves to 6-1 for the 2012 season.
In game two, Midland scored all four of their runs by the second inning. But it would prove to be all they needed as the Plainsmen could not get a run across the plate in the 0-4 loss.
The split on Friday keeps both teams’ hopes for the final regional tournament qualifying spot alive, as Midland College went to 10-12 in WJCAC play, while Frank Phillips goes to 9-13. The two teams are battling with Western Texas College for the final regional tournament qualifying spot.
Frank Phillips and Midland College concluded their four game series on Saturday and the Plainsmen will next host Western Texas College in a four game series starting on Friday.
