FPC Plainsmen split games with Luna CC

On Friday afternoon, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen opened the 2012 season by winning game one of their four game series with Luna Community College, 11-6, but dropping the second game 10-4 .

Luna took advantage of a strong wind blowing out of right field by hitting three homeruns in the game, including a two-run shot in the top of the first inning.
The Plainsmen took the lead for good in the bottom of the third inning by scoring four runs to take a 5-3 lead.
An rbi single by Richard Tordsen started the big third inning for the Plainsmen, which included Larren Artis bringing in two runs off a double.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Plainsmen started to pull away as Cesar Wong brought in a run on a rbi triple followed by Tordsen and Artis each collecting another rbi to build an 8-3 lead.
Zach Johnson got the win on the mound for the Plainsmen by going four innings giving up six hits, four walks, three earned runs, with four strike outs.
Louis Smiley pitched the final three innings striking out three hitters.

The Plainsmen held a 3-2 lead until Luna scored six runs in the fifth inning to pull away for the win.
Luna’s bats came alive in the second game by collecting 16 hits compared to just four by the Plainsmen.
Alfonso Aguilar got the loss on the mound for the Plainsmen.
The series between Frank Phillips and Luna continued on Saturday afternoon.
