On Wednesday afternoon, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen took advantage of solid pitching performances by Sterling Kiper, Brad Wieck, Gerald Rodriguez, and Louis Smiley and good defense to get the 8-2 win over the Seward County Community College Saints in non-conference baseball action.
The Plainsmen pitchers gave up just two runs on six hits over nine innings.
The Plainsmen jumped on top of the Saints early by scoring three runs off four hits in the bottom of the first inning.
After Coby Roming and Andrew Landin got on base, Alfonso Aguilar brought in the first Plainsmen run on a RBI single to left field.
Nolan Hoskins brought in the second Plainsmen run of the inning on a single to right field before he was brought in by a hit by Joel Villareal.
After the first inning, the game was a defensive contest, with neither team scoring another run until the sixth inning.
In the sixth inning, the Plainsmen added two more runs, then three runs in the seventh inning to build an 8-0 lead.
The Saints scored two runs late, but the Plainsmen defense and pitching took care of business to get the 8-2 win.
The win improves the Plainsmen record to 9-17 overall, while the Saints to go 16-18.
The Plainsmen will return to WJCAC play in a four game series with NMMI beginning on Friday in Roswell, N.M.
