After a couple of road trips, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen (14-20) baseball team and the Lady Plainsmen (10-27) softball team will be in WJCAC action this weekend in Borger,
The Plainsmen begin a four game series with the Clarendon College Bulldogs (19-9) on Friday with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
The Plainsmen have looked good the past two weeks with a 5-3 record against NMMI and El Paso CC to improve their conference record to 8-8.
Alfonso Aguilar has had the hot bat in conference play and leads the team in RBIs with 29 to go along with a .339 batting average five triples and four doubles.
6-9 freshman lefty Brad Wieck continues to develop into a shutdown starter for the Plainsmen by entering this weekend with a 5-0 record with a 2.57 ERA and 57 strikeouts.
Going into this weekend, the Plainsmen sit one game behind Western Texas College for fourth place in the WJCAC standings. The top four in the conference advance to the Region V Baseball Tournament in May.
In order to gain ground on Western Texas, the Plainsmen will need to come out focused against a Bulldog team that currently holds a 13-7 conference record, which includes a four game sweep of NMMI last week.
Saturday's games between Clarendon and FPC will also get underway at noon.
In softball, the Lady Plainsmen host Howard College on Saturday in a doubleheader with a 1:00 p.m. start time and will play Western Texas College in a doubleheader on Sunday, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
The Lady Plainsmen enter the weekend sitting in fifth place in the WJCAC standings with a 3-7 record, one game ahead of Western Texas College. So both teams will come out looking to climb higher in the district standings and take a step closer to securing a spot in the Region V Tournament.
The Lady Plainsmen have shown the ability to hit with some power by hitting 25 home runs so far this season, led by Lucinda Ponce with nine to go along with her 30 RBIs and 12 doubles.
