Tonight, the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen basketball team will tip off the 2011-12 season in Colorado taking on Trinidad State College.
The Lady Plainsmen are coming off a tough 4-25 campaign last season, but there is a lot of optimism entering this year, thanks to six returning players and some new size to the team.
Due to having six players returning, FPC Head Women’s Basketball Coach Eric Rodewald said he was able to spend the off-season working on a lot of fundamentals and just learning what the strengths are in the players he has coming back and how to use that on the basketball court.
In their early scrimmages, Rodewald has liked what he has seen from his team but says the key to having success this season will be for the team to develop more consistency.
Rodeward said, “In our scrimmages there have been times where we will go several minutes without scoring and others where we are constantly making our shots. We need to make sure to find a way to be able to give a great effort throughout the game and limit our lapses.”
Rodewald added he likes how his team moves the ball around, but his team needs to avoid trying to make one pass too many and take the good shot when it is there.
The Lady Plainsmen will play their first home game on Monday, November 21st vs Cochise College at 5:30 p.m.
