On Friday evening, Frank Phillips College will have its commencement ceremony for over 150 students who have applied for graduation this spring.
The ceremony will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the BCAC.
This yearâ€™s commencement speaker is Mr. Robin Adkins.
Adkins is 1975 graduate of Phillips High School and an honors graduate of both Frank Phillips College and West Texas A & M University. Adkins earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, cum laude in 1979 from Baylor University, holds a Master of Education Degree in Administration from WTAMU; and received his Professional Superintendent Certification in 1991 from Sul Ross State University in Alpine.
Mr. Adkins began his educational career as a coach and teacher for the Canadian Independent School District in 1979. He returned to Phillips High School as a coach and teacher in 1985. In 1987, Adkins went to the Plemons-Stinnett-Phillips Consolidated Independent School District to serve as a teacher, coach, principal, and then as the superintendent.
In 2001 he became the superintendent for the Perryton Independent School District.
After his retirement from public school administration, Adkins served as the Deputy Director for Direct Services for the Region 16 Education Service Center in Amarillo and is now serving the Region 16 ESC as a P-16 Specialist.
Mr. Adkinsâ€™ wife Valerie is a Head Start Teacher for the Region 16 Education Service Center. She is a Borger native and an honors graduate of both Frank Phillips College and West Texas A & M University. The Adkinsâ€™ daughter Audrey is a teacher and lives in San Marcos with her husband John Owens. Their daughter Kim is a pharmacy technician in San Marcos.
