FPC accepts $25,000 from United Supermarkets Foundation

October 18, 2011

On Monday afternoon, the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents approved accepting a $25,000 donation from the United Supermarkets Foundation which was presented to the college back on September 30th.
The gift was the second part of $50,000 United Supermarkets awarded FPC to be used towards the renovation of the Biology Lab that was complete this summer.
United Supermarkets presented its first installment of the donation back in October of 2010.
Also during Monday’s Board of Regents meeting, FPC President Dr. Jud Hicks gave a positive report about the college’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program.
Recently the college learned it received approval to start offering a degree option for students in the “Pump and Engine” and Instrumentation (INE) programs. As of Monday, the college was still waiting to receive approval for the certificate plan for both programs but felt it was just a matter of days before the college received the go-ahead for those programs.
In regards to Frank Phillips College expanding its offerings within the CTE program, Dr. Hicks told the Board of Regents, he believes the programs will be a great opportunity to offer education, training and marketable skills for students who otherwise may not be interested in pursuing a traditional academic degree. Dr. Hicks said the college plans to have colleges for the new programs fully implemented for the fall of 2012.
