Former Borger Bulldogs preparing for upcoming Alumni Game

October 5, 2011

On Saturday, October 15th former Pampa Harvesters and former Borger Bulldogs will square off at Bulldogs Stadium for the Pampa vs. Borger Alumni Game.
The Bulldogs will feature Borger High School alumni who graduated as recently as this spring to players who graduated in the late 1980s and early 1990s who just have a love for playing the game of football and representing the Borger community.
In preparation for the game, the Borger team has scheduled a “Meet the Alumni” on Thursday evening where the team will workout under the lights of Bulldog Stadium from 7:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.
According to Danny Harbin, a 1994 Borger High graduate and team member, the team will go through several drills and work on special teams during the Thursday evening workout.
Corey Monroe is coaching this year’s Borger team, which has a roster of over 40 players that includes several from last year’s team that took part in the first alumni game in Pampa last August.
While the players are busy with their jobs and taking care of their families, the group has worked out regularly over the past couple of months preparing for this year’s alumni game.
On what makes being a part of the alumni team special, Harbin said, “It has been great seeing all the different players that are alumni come together to form a team.”
As far as a game plan against Pampa, Harbin didn’t give any specifics, only joking that you won’t see a lot of no-huddle offense because the players are going to need all the 45-second breaks they can get between plays.
The alumni game will not only provide an entertaining way to watch former Borger Bulldogs take the football field, it will also serve as a good fundraiser for the high schools. The Pampa and Borger football booster clubs will receive 20% of the money brought in from ticket sales and the money collected from concession and t-shirt sales.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the Borger Alumni team is still needing help in purchasing game jerseys. If anyone or business is interested in sponsoring or helping the team get the jerseys are asked to contact Danny Harbin at 806-421-1187.
Texas Legends of Football are helping to organize this year’s came between the Harvesters and Bulldogs.
Kickoff for the Pampa vs. Borger Alumni game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 15th.
