Evelyn Payne Ray, 91, died October 20, 2013.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 24, 2013 at First Baptist Church Chapel with Rev. Corky Holland officiating. Grave side service will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Westlawn Cemetery in Borger.
Mrs. Ray was born on May 1, 1922 in Hammon, OK to Leonard and Ethel Wilder. She was raised in Hammon, where she attended Hammon High School. She married Leroy Payne on February 28, 1939. He preceded her in death in 1967. Together they moved to Borger where she lived until 1972. She then moved to Elk City, where she married Hubert Ray in 1972. He preceded her in death in 1990. She moved to Amarillo in 2002 and was a member of First Baptist Church. Throughout the years, she was a devoted Sunday school teacher and a WMU Director. Mrs. Ray was an avid bridge player. Above all, she was a loving “Mamo” to her grandchildren.
Mrs. Ray is survived by 2 daughters, Phyllis Shelton and husband Royce and Marilyn Daves and husband Charlie, all of Amarillo; 6 grandchildren, Donnie Allen, Dana Rodriguez, Darin Allen, Greg Daves, John Allen and Jennifer Helms; 8 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by parents; husband, Leroy Payne; husband, Hubert Ray; 2 brothers; 2 sisters and her great granddaughter, Logan Daves.
