With spots on city councils, school boards, and other boards up for grabs, it is important for prospective candidates and voters to know dates pertaining to the upcoming election process.
Those interested in filing for a spot on the ballot have until 5 p.m. Monday, March 5 to do so. This is also the deadline for write-in candidates to file. It is also the last day to order a general election for May 12, 2012, the recommended date to appoint presiding and alternate judge, and the recommended date to order the lists of registered voters from the county voter registrar.
Tuesday, March 6 is the recommended first day that an election may be cancelled if all deadlines have passed and each candidate for an office is unopposed, and the recommended date to conduct a ballot position drawing.
March 8 is the last day for a candidate to withdraw in an election for which the filing deadline is the 71st day before election day. March 13 is the first day to accept regular applications for early voting ballots by mail for any May 12, 2012 election.
March 26 is the last day for election judges to be notified of their appointment, and on March 28, the early voting clerk may begin mailing early voting ballots to applicants as soon as ballots are available.
April 12 is the last day to register to vote for the May 12, 2012, election. April 30 is the first day to vote early in person and May 8 is the last day to vote early by personal appearance.
Election Day will be held May 12, 2012, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
