Election to be held for Borger city council

March 31, 2012

Two file for Place One; DeWeese not running for reelection

The City of Borger will be holding an election on May 12 for one spot on the city council.
The city has had two candidates file for Place One on the Borger City Council, William Adams and Brandy Callahan. Leon DeWeese, who currently holds the spot, did not file for reelection.
Early voting for the election will take place from Monday, April 30-Friday, May 4 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and May 7-8 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at City Hall in Borger. Applications for ballots by mail must be received no later than the close of business May 4, 2012. These ballots are to be mailed to City Secretary Stella Sauls.
On Election Day, Precinct 11 voters will cast ballots at Borger Middle School, Precincts 33 and 42 will cast ballots at Paul Belton Learning Center, and Precincts 14 and 23 will cast ballots at Fairlanes Baptist Church.
The judges for the election are as follows:
Early voting ballot board – Jeanene Flippo, judge
Precinct 11 – Wanda Klause, judge
Precinct 14 & 23 – Joan Carder, judge; Brenda Jackson, alternate
Precinct 33 & 42 – Bertha Walker, judge; Polly Gillingham, alternate
The City of Borger pays election judges $12 an hour and an additional $25 for returning the election machines and ballot boxes to City Hall after the election. Alternate judges are paid $10 an hour.
The city had entered into a joint election agreement with Borger ISD, the Hutchinson County Hospital District, and Frank Phillips College for their upcoming elections. However, none of these entities had opposed candidates, so they will not be holding elections on May 12.
No elections will be held in Fritch or Stinnett this year.
