The wind, the dirt, and the Sanford Fritch Eagles swept into Stinnett Saturday and handily took care of the Comanches in both games of a non-District double header. SF won the first game in seven innings 15-4 and run ruled the Tribe in five innings in a football score 31-7. The wind was definitely a factor causing fielders to misjudge fly balls, a hitter’s dream and outfielder’s nightmare. The Comanches also had several players missing due to another school function. Many of the Eagles’ runs were off WT High errors and unearned.
The first game was actually a good ball game through four innings, although the Comanches never was on top. SF led 2-0 after one off a Tate Murray home run with Christian Ward on base. The Eagles added two more runs in the top of the second when Colton Valley and Trey Henry stole home off WT errors. Logan Hoff put the Comanches on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the second.
After Murray doubled in the third, Caleb Manzella sacrificed to bring him across home plate. WT’s big Ty Lay belted a solo home run over in the top of the third to make the score 5-2 Eagles after three. Chris Bryan doubled and Ryan Melton scored to make the score 7-2. The Tribe loaded the bases but stranded all three runners to trail 7-2 after four innings.
SF added five runs in a to take a 12-2 lead into the bottom of the fifth, enough for a run rule ending if WT is can’t score in the bottom. Lay got on base with a double and an Eagle error allowed him to score and take the game into another inning. Dawson doubled for Fritch and he scored on a West Texas error to make the score 14-3 and a chance to end the game again in the bottom of the inning. However, the Comanches just wouldn’t go away and Carlos Juarez got on base with a walk. The Eagles loaded the bases with two more base on balls and a hit batsman. Juarez scored to take the score to 13-4 and force a seventh inning.
Fritch added on two more runs in the top of the seventh and West Texas went three up and three down to end the game with a 15-4 Eagle win.
In game two, the Eagles jumped on the Tribe early and put up a 10-0 lead in the top of the first. Juarez got on base for the Tribe with a triple and came home on a fielder’s choice. Fritch piled on seven more runs in the top of the second to lead 17-1. WT scored one in the bottom of the inning for a 17-2 score. In high school ball, five innings must be played for the mercy rule to apply.
Each team added two runs in the third inning for a 19-4 SF lead after three. The Eagles sent sixteen batters to the plate in the top of the third inning. Jesse Pruitt managed to score for the Comanches and they trailed 31-5 after four innings. The Eagles went three up and three down in the bottom of the inning after a nice pick off at second base by WT High. Unfortunately for the Tribe, they just sent six batters up and managed two more runs to lose big 31-7.
