Through their first two games of District 1-2A Division II play, the Sanford-Fritch Eagles have been able to prove they are a lot better than their 0-4 non-district mark by beating Tulia and getting a big win over Floydada last week.
Against the Whirlwinds, the Eagles’ offense was clicking on all cylinders racking up 346 yards on the ground while throwing for another 261.
Junior Colton Valle showed why he is considered one of the best running backs in the Texas Panhandle by scoring three touchdowns and rushing for 236 yards.
Senior quarterback Chris Bryan had a big game against Floydada, throwing three touchdowns including a big 53 yard pass to Christian Ward in the second quarter.
The Eagles will try to keep the impressive offensive numbers going when they travel to Amarillo tomorrow night to take on the Amarillo Highland Park Hornets.
The Hornets enter Friday with the same identical 2-4 record as the Eagles. But district play has not been kind as the Hornets dropped their games to Abernathy and Spearman by a combined score of 126-12.
With district games still left with Dimmitt, Abernathy and Spearman, the game with the Hornets is one of those where the Eagles will need to stay focused and not look to far down the road.
But if the Eagles come out prepared and ready to play tomorrow night, a big double-digit win is a good possibility for Sanford-Fritch.
Kickoff between Sanford-Fritch and Highland Park is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Amarillo.
