Eagles come up short against Highland Park 47-42

On Friday night, the Sanford-Fritch Eagles matched up well against a quick, athletic Amarillo Highland Park Hornets team. The Hornets are a fast paced, no structure team that loves to run the court and Sanford-Fritch stayed right with them for the entire night. Despite some interesting officiating, Sanford-Fritch showed some moments of good basketball. Highland Park started off on quick run, capitalizing on every turnover. Coach Simmons finally used a timeout to stop Highland Park momentum with only 1:40 left and a 16-8 score in first quarter. Senior Chris Bryan had some easy shots and great blocks to pull Sanford-Fritch closer at 18-12.The back and forth battle continued and Sanford-Fritch stayed within reach to end half 25-19. The third quarter was a Colton Valle stealing show- he tortured the Hornets all night.Pretty equal scoring from most of the Sanford-Fritch team, with Valle as leader with 8.The Eagles crawled back within four points to start the fourth quarter 35-31.A couple of key timeouts to keep the game close and under control wouldn’t help the Eagles get their first district win. They would fall short 47-42 in heartbreaker. Big game Tuesday against the Childress Bobcats, who are in first place within district and ranked #8 in state.Stat:Colton Valle 8 pt; 4 blksRyan Blakely 6 point; 3 rebTrey Henry 6 ptsChristian Ward 6 pts; 7 rebChris Bryan 6 pts; 5 reb
