Donald Gene Smith

Donald Gene Smith, 73, of Spring, Texas, passed away May 19, 2011. He was born August 2, 1937 in Borger, Texas to the late Ray and Ruby Smith. Don is also preceded in death by his sister Cora Lee Loudon and Jill’s mother Sandra De Ann Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Lillian Smith; daughter Jill Belinda; step-daughter Kelly Quick and husband David; grandchildren Nathan Ray Smith-Lorrain and Katherine Coerver; brother Ralph Wayne Smith; nephew Cameron Powell Smith; and nieces Jan and Sharon.
Don was recruited by Bear Bryant to play football at Texas A&M where he was a three year letterman. He then graduated from A&M in 1959. After coaching High School football for several years, Don spent the rest of his career in the oil field industry. He was also a member of Christ Church United Methodist in The Woodlands, Texas.
A celebration of Don’s life is set for 11:00 A.M., Monday, May 23, 2011 at Christ Church United Methodist, 6363 Research Forest Dr., The Woodlands, Texas 77381.
