DALHART-On Saturday afternoon, the Borger Bulldogs opened District 1-3A play by getting a 13-3 win over the Dalhart Golden Wolves in Dalhart.
After falling behind 0-2 after the second inning, the Bulldogs outscored the Wolves 13-1 in the final six innings, while senior pitcher Chayse Tracy did a solid job on the mound through six innings of work.
In the second inning, the Wolves used two singles and a walk to load the bases with one out. A Bulldog infield error led to the Wolves scoring two runs before the Bulldogs came up with the final two outs to get out of the inning.
It didn’t take long for the Bulldogs to respond, as a Grant Boren walk and singles by Colton Hunter and Max Lusk loaded the bases with no outs. Tracy would bring in the first Bulldog run of the inning on a fielder’s choice, followed by Clay Ellis hitting a two RBI single, giving Borger a 3-2 lead. Before the Bulldogs got off the field in the third inning, a passed ball at home plate and a RBI hit by Kota Dillard allowed the Bulldogs to build a 5-2 lead.
After the good inning by the Bulldogs, Tracy was able to find his groove on the mound by striking out eight Wolf batters over the next three innings.
Fielding errors and timely hits led to the Bulldogs scoring two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings. But it would be a solid seventh inning where the Bulldogs put the game out of reach, with Hunter hitting a RBI single and Ellis a three RBI triple to make it a 13-2 score.
The Wolves tried to rally by hitting a double and loading the bases with one out. But the Bulldogs were able to hang on for the ten run win with Lusk taking the mound and ending the game with two strike outs.
The win allows the Bulldogs to open District 1-3A play with a 1-0 record and improve to 3-9 overall for the 2012 season.
The Bulldogs return to the field on Saturday, March 31st hosting Perryton at Huber Park, beginning at noon.
