Disc golf tournament a success

December 10, 2012

Left, Annadon Keys presents James Huneycutt, middle, with a Johnson Park Youth Center t-shirt for his hole in one on basket 10, a very difficult shot. Also pictured is course designer, Michael Mittelstet. Shirts can be purchased at the Youth Center for $15.00 and come in many bright colors. Congrats, James!

The tournament held at Johnson Park last weekend was a good time for all.
There were 30 entries in this years' tournament, with winners getting a cash payout. They were also treated to a free brisket lunch, which I can attest was outstanding.
Annadon Keys, the supervisor at the park, commented, “The disc golf players are some of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. They came from Borger, Amarillo, Lubbock, Pampa, Childress, White Deer, Wichita Falls, and Clovis this year to compete on our course.”
The winners for the disc golf tournament for our Recreation Division were 1st place Clay Ellis score 127, Geraldo Carrizales score 128 and Jeff Rash score 128. Advanced Division had a play off for 1st place, and Josh Johnson score 113 won, 2nd place Glen Biar score 113 and 3rd place Tom Grensbey score 115. Open Division, 1st place Brandon Carter score 105, 2nd place Armondo (Gordo) Garcia score 112 and 3rd place Matt Smart score 112. Some of the tied winners decided to just split their winnings instead of having a play off.
Keys also said that there are great things in the future for the disc golf course. “We have a lot of exciting things happening with our disc golf tournament. We are planning to join the Professional Disc Golf Association and also planning to have disc golf scrambles this spring.”
The Johnson Park Youth Center Complex welcomes any interested parties to visit their facilities. The staff there is top-notch, friendly, and accomodating. They have t-shirts for sale, and also sell discs for beginners on up to the more advanced.
If there are any players interested in playing in the tournaments, they are encouraged to send their e-mail address to so that they can be added to the mailing list. They can also be reached at 806-275-9014 for any questions you may have.
