Danny Richards receives master’s degree
Borger and Hutchinson County’s emergency management coordinator has been hard at work on his higher education in order to continue keeping citizens safe.Danny Richards graduated with a Master’s of Science Degree in Emergency Management from Jacksonville State University in Alabama on April 29, 2011.He said Jacksonville State University offers one of the best curriculums for emergency managers wishing to further their professional studies.“The program requires an in-depth study of government structure, emergency response, financial recovery, and hazard mitigation,” Richards said. “The three-year program consists of a combination of online classes, proctored exams at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, and a comprehensive exam at the university in Alabama.”He said it was unfortunate that the school’s graduation ceremonies were conducted in the shadow of the extreme tornado damage that occurred near the university less than 12 hours earlier.“This huge tornado outbreak only reinforces the need for better emergency planning, warning, and recovery,” Richards said. “With this new degree, I hope to better serve our area and provide a higher degree of safety for our community.”He serves as the emergency management coordinator for the City of Borger and Hutchinson County, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in emergency management from WTAMU in 2008. Richards is a lifelong resident of Borger.
