DALHART-On Friday evening, the Dalhart Golden Wolves used a 12-1 run to end the third period helping them to pull away for the 65-37 win over the Borger Bulldogs in District 1-3A play.
Despite the Bulldogs’ having a combination of a 26% shooting percentage and 24 turnovers, Borger was only down by seven points with about 3:00 minutes to go in the third period. However, nine of the team’s turnovers took place in the fourth period leading to the Wolves outscoring Borger 23-11 in the final eight minutes.
A three pointer by Jamon Hearon and a jumper by Tyrell Haynes gave Borger an early 5-4 lead. However, the Wolves scored 12 straight points over a four minute span to take an 11 point lead by the 5:00 mark of the second period.
The Wolves had a ten point lead at halftime, but the Bulldogs closed the gap to seven points with Grant Boren and Seth Rawlinson combining for nine points in a three minute span to make it a 25-32 game.
But a Borger comeback was not meant to be on Friday night as the Bulldogs drop to 1-5 in District 1-3A play, while Dalhart sits at the top of the district standings with a 5-1.
Pampa defeated Perryton on Friday night giving the Harvesters and Rangers identical 3-3 district records.
The Bulldogs still have some live in the district’s playoff race, but the team will need a win on Tuesday evening against Perryton.
The Bulldogs will host Perryton in their final home game of the season, which will also be a part of the high school’s senior night and basketball homecoming festivities.
Tip off between the Rangers and Bulldogs is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Tex Hanna Gym.
